Our next zoom event was inspired while Mike was on his travels in the Philippines, and thought he'd bring back a taste of it for everyone to enjoy. The origin of the tobacco industry in the Philippines dates to 1592, when the Spanish Galleon San Clemente brought 50 kilos of Cuban tobacco seeds to the country. The seeds were spread, along with the Catholic faith, by friars, who found that the crop flourished best in the Cagayan Valley in the province of lsabela. With a climate very similar to Cuba's Vuelta Abajo region, lsabela soon hosted a large tobacco-growing industry.

The first Asian cigar company, Tabacalera, was founded in 1881 and celebrates this with it's 1881 Perique blend. With 15-year vintage tobacco filler, this smooth-smoking cigar delivers the unique experience of the mysterious and rare Perique leaf, grown only in St. James Parish, Louisiana, and fermented in oak whiskey casks.  As they say; 'Let this maverick blend take you for a ride with strong peppery notes, taking turns with subtle sweetness, all enveloped in a long-lingering spice that finishes smooth. Known as a leaf that is too difficult to blend for premium cigars, Perique has met its match.'

What better to enjoy this Philippine cigar with than a rum hailing from the same country. We're presenting the Tanduay Gold Asian Rum, aged in bourbon barrels for seven years before being bottled. Enjoyably fruit-forward, with plenty of warming spice to offer a welcome juxtaposition to the Perique tobacco.

Starting at 7:30pm on Thursday 9th June this is sure to be an amazing event so secure your tasting pack now to avoid missing out.
